PSL Points Rules and Information
The rules for the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) remain the same, with the victorious team receiving 2 points. It means that if there is a “no result,” each team gets 1 point, but the losing team gets nothing. The outcome of a match is decided in a Super Over if the teams are deadlocked.
It’s a winner-take-all scenario if the teams are deadlocked at the end of regulation. Here are a few tidbits to help you better comprehend the PSL table:
- The top position will be determined by the maximum number of points in the table.
- If multiple teams are tied with the same number of points, then the net run rate (NRR) will come into force, and the team with the highest NRR will top the others.
- Moreover, in case the NRR is tied, the team with the most wins will top the others.
- If two teams are tied on all the above criteria, the head-to-head contest between them will determine the superior team.
Pakistan Super League Format and Points Table Criteria
Previously, using the double round-robin style, each team faced other team twice. But from 2026, the competition brings more excitement. In the group stage, each team will play against each other. Then the teams will be divided into two groups and top two teams from each groups will qualify for playoffs.
In the previous editions, the following criteria determine a team’s position in a group:
- The team with the most points at the end of the group stage will finish in first place.
- If teams have the same number of points, the team with the higher net run rate will finish higher.
- In this case, the points and the net run rate are equal. The team with the most wins in the group stage will finish higher.
- If the above criteria are equal, the team with fewer losses will finish higher in the table.
- Suppose all the criteria remain equal. The result of the head-to-head between the two teams will determine the league’s position.
